Many children and even some adults don't understand the full effects of responsible pet ownership. It is one of the reasons why our animal shelters are filled with unwanted pets.
A dog is a commitment of 8 to 15 years. This animal will become a member of your household and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. There is also a large monetary
commitment when you adopt a dog. Holly The Newf introduces the basics
of how to be a responsible care giver to a pet. Although adults are always the main care giver, there are many things that children can do to help in the day-to-day care of a pet.
She will also talk about the true cost of a pet.
Shelter and food seem like obvious necessities, but flea and tick treatments, spaying and neutering, proper grooming, and veterinary care are among the many needs of a dog. Holly
The Newf comes from a home that practices Holistic living and natural pet care, so she and her owner will share knowledge of some of their alternative practices to the better known
commercial ones. They will talk about what is in the food you feed your dog and how this can effect your dog's health, well-being, and behavior. Holly The Newf will also tell about
her work as a Therapy Dog and the benefits of sharing a dog with others in need.
Other topics covered are basic dog training guidelines. Holly The Newf will also show children in particular how to meet a dog and respect for animals. Age appropriate handouts are
distributed during the presentation. If you would like to schedule Holly The Newf for a presentation on Responsible Dog Ownership, fill out a
Schedule Us form.
