The Tail Waggin' Tutors Program is one of the many services offered by
Therapy Dogs International (TDI). Some children have a little trouble learning how to read. They can be self-conscious and uncomfortable about reading out loud in front of
their classmates or teachers. That's where the Tail Waggin' Tutors come in. Holly The Newf is one of the Therapy Dogs that is certified to work with children in this wonderfully
valuable program.
Schools and Libraries that would like to utilize this program, can schedule reading hours for children who are having difficulty learning how to read with Holly The Newf. Children
bond with Holly The Newf as they share a story together. The children's confidence and reading skills grow in a relaxing environment. It's that easy.
Children who might be hesitant, embarrassed, or shy about their ready abilities feel at ease around a dog like Holly The Newf who is just there to listen to the story and not
there to judge how well he or she reads. As Diane Mitchell, Branch Manager of the Richland Public Library in Mississippi says, "More confidence in reading could lead to improved
grades and improved grades mean happy children and parents."
